Course Code: MS001518
Course Name:
Advanced Urban Development Strategies
Credit：2
Course Introduction:
The course is delivered by Prof. Pietro Elisei (Former President of ISOCARP, EU Urban Policy Advisor, and Professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata), this course adopts a global perspective to explore seven core themes of contemporary urban transformation. It covers the multidisciplinary interpretation of design concepts, the deep integration of sustainable development and intergenerational equity, innovative governance and public participation mechanisms, and urban regeneration combining cultural heritage with Nature-based Solutions (NbS), while providing an in-depth analysis of systemic challenges such as transportation revolution and urban renewal.
Core Features & Methodology: The course focuses on teaching a transferable, universal planning methodology. Students will master analytical tools—including design thinking, participatory planning, co-design, spatial scenario building, multi-level governance, and urban living labs—to diagnose urban problems, evaluate development scenarios, and propose targeted planning strategies. By integrating cutting-edge EU policies with Mediterranean case studies, the seven modules bridge strategic planning and local actions, cultivating leadership to shape resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban futures within the dual contexts of globalization and climate change.
